About The Premetovc

A historic Slovenian gostišče, brought back to life

The Premetovc is a historic Slovenian gostišče in the Poljanska Valley, near Škofja Loka.

For many years, this building was known locally as a place of food, welcome and community. People came here to eat, drink, meet, celebrate, rest, and pass through. Like many old places with soul, it carried memories long after its doors had closed.

After years of silence, The Premetovc is now being carefully brought back to life.

Today, it is becoming a boutique alpine retreat offering accommodation, private events, restaurant experiences, and a growing programme of creative and cultural hospitality.

This is not simply a hotel project. It is a revival.

It is the story of a building, a village, a valley, and the people who believe that beautiful old places should not be forgotten.

A place with roots

The Premetovc sits at:

Log nad Škofja Loka 15
4220 Škofja Loka
Slovenia

The surrounding area is rich in landscape, tradition and quiet beauty. Škofja Loka is one of Slovenia’s most historic towns, while the Poljanska Valley offers forests, hills, rivers, villages, churches, walking routes, cycling, local food and a slower rhythm of life.

For guests from the UK and abroad, this is a chance to discover a part of Slovenia that still feels authentic, atmospheric and deeply connected to its surroundings.

For local people, The Premetovc is something more personal: a familiar name returning to life.

That is why this project matters to us.

The story

The Premetovc had been closed for years when British hospitality entrepreneur and property developer Dominic Hatje began restoring the building with the support and vision of his Slovenian partner, Marija.

Together, they saw more than an empty building.

They saw the possibility of bringing back a place that once mattered to local people — and giving it a new future for guests, travellers, families, artists, food lovers, and those looking for somewhere with real character.

The work is still unfolding. Rooms are being prepared. Guest experiences are being shaped. Restaurant and private event plans are developing. Every detail, from the atmosphere of the rooms to the way guests are welcomed, is part of a wider vision: to create a place with history, warmth, standards and soul.

The Premetovc is not being rebuilt as something anonymous or ordinary.

It is being revived as itself.

Where we are now

The Premetovc is now open for accommodation, with selected restaurant experiences and private events developing around the wider hospitality vision.

We are still growing carefully. This is not a finished story. It is a live journey.

Our aim is to build The Premetovc into a warm, characterful alpine retreat where guests can stay, eat, celebrate, explore the valley, and feel part of something real.

We are developing the project step by step, with respect for the building, the local community, and the guests who choose to be part of this next chapter.

Our first opening

In April 2026, The Premetovc opened its doors for a first public event.

We did not know how many people would come.

More than 100 guests arrived.

For us, it was a powerful moment. The building was no longer just a renovation project. It was alive again. People were eating, talking, laughing, remembering, discovering, and imagining what this place could become.

That day confirmed something we had hoped was true:

The Premetovc still means something.

Media and press

The revival of The Premetovc has already attracted media attention in Slovenia, including television, radio and press coverage.

Featured in Slovenian media:

RTV Slovenia
Radio Prvi
Gorenjska / local press coverage
Online features about the reopening and revival of the building

We welcome interest from journalists, travel writers, broadcasters, producers and media teams who would like to follow the story of The Premetovc as it continues to develop.

This story includes:

• A historic Slovenian gostišče being brought back to life
• A British owner restoring a heritage hospitality building abroad
• A Slovenian partner helping shape the guest experience and vision
• A rural community reconnecting with a long-closed place
• A live hospitality project moving from restoration into operation
• Accommodation, events, food, photography and alpine travel
• The challenge of turning a beautiful dream into a sustainable business

For journalists and producers

The Premetovc offers a highly visual and human story.

It combines heritage restoration, rural tourism, hospitality, cross-cultural partnership, local memory, business risk, and the emotional journey of reviving a building that had been silent for years.

Possible story angles include:

Hove driving instructor swaps learner cars for a forgotten Slovenian inn

The Slovenian inn everyone thought was finished — until a man from Hove brought it back to life

From Hove to the Slovenian hills: one man’s gamble to revive a forgotten village inn

At an age when most men slow down, this Hove man started a new life in Slovenia

A Hove man always dreamed of owning a pub. He finally did it — in the Slovenian hills.

I’d also consider changing “finished” to “gone” in the second line:

The Slovenian inn everyone thought was gone — until a man from Hove brought it back to life

Photographs, video, interviews and background information are available on request.
